Evan W. Dixon is an experienced lawyer and trusted advisor who maintains a primary focus on energy, environmental, regulatory, and Aboriginal law. Evan regularly represents clients before provincial regulatory tribunals including the Alberta Energy Regulator (and its predecessor), the Alberta Utilities Commission, and the Canada Energy Regulator (and its predecessor), including acting as counsel on some of Canada’s most significant regulatory proceedings.
Evan has appeared before all levels of Court in Alberta as well as the Federal Court of Canada. Evan’s litigation experience includes having represented the Attorney General of Alberta in respect of challenges to the constitutionality of the Preserving Canada’s Economic Prosperity Act brought by the Attorney General of British Columbia.
He routinely works with project proponents and intervenors in projects related to mining, electrical and oil & gas facilities applications, electricity market, and pipeline matters. His experience also includes having acted as counsel to a quasi-judicial board responsible for the economic regulation of public utilities as well as serving as in-house counsel to one of Canada’s largest pipeline companies during a period of historically significant expansion.
In addition to his work appearing before Administrative Tribunals and the courts, Evan routinely collaborates with clients to navigate electricity market issues and provide strategic advice on all manner of complex regulatory issues throughout the energy value chain, including providing strategic advice on engagement with First Nations and Indigenous groups and related project agreements.
Evan also has experience dealing with corporate commercial practice, including having provided specialist support on all manner of corporate commercial transactions, including completing environmental due diligence and providing advice on issues related to directors’ and officers’ liability as well as corporate and environmental compliance issues. Evan has also successfully represented clients dealing with regulatory investigations and inquiries.
